Being At Home In Your Body
Knowing Where You Reside.
Growing up in the country with views like this, you are reminded everyday to appreciate this earth where we live.
The land where yesterday's wedding took place in Ithaca, NY
Nature has an amazing ability to make you feel connected, grounded, and at peace. It reminds us that beauty is all around us, and that the same beauty resides within ourselves. Just like the dirt, vegetation and water are parts of the whole, within your body your tissues, bones and blood are, similarly, parts to the whole.
My favorite thing about massage therapy is the awareness that it brings to you. How being on that table can make you feel like you’re at home in your body in a way you've never felt before.
“Wow, I had no idea I had something going on in my shoulder.” I hear something to that effect quite often. We tend to ignore the messages our bodies are trying to tell us. Never mind that for weeks you couldn't raise your arm above your head as much as you usually can. No, no, nothing going on there you tell yourself, it’s fine.
Massage doesn't lie. It’s not going to let you overlook that shoulder issue any more. Massage is our way to stay connected to our bodies. To appreciate all its intricacies and marvel at what a beautiful creation it is.
So the next time you settle onto the massage table, before I enter the room, thank your body. Take a moment to appreciate it just as it is, and ask it to let you know how it’s really feeling. Then relax, feel, and really listen, while my hands artfully make you aware of what’s been ignored for so long.
